There are basically two types of adoption. One is the domestic private adoption which we approach by either the advertising route or the "attourney referral" route. The advertising route is the most difficult for which to project a budget. It could be very inexpensive or it could be into the mid $20,000.00 and more, depending on the birth parent(s) circumstances and the legal requirements necessary to satisfy her state and your state laws, and how long it takes to find that person(s). The attorney referral cases have generally come in somewhere about $23,000.00 to $29,000.00.
International adoption, the second basic type of adoption case, comes in about $18,000.00 to $25,000.00 depending on the country where you choose to adopt, the circumstances of the child, the travel costs, etc.
We try to be realistic and err on the side of giving you conservatively high breakouts of the different fees, expenses, and hidden additional costs. The budget may be more or less depending upon the specific situation.
